Periyar House, Aranya Niwas and the Lake Palace run by the Government-owned Kerala Tourism Development Corporation  situated in the park’s tourist complex area offer good accommodation facilities. On the periphery of the park  some outstanding resorts, notably Spice Village and  the Taj Garden Retreat, among them offer premium accommodation. But Periyar  has  resorts and hotels to suit every budget. The high season is between December to January and hence advance booking of accommodation is recommended.

Comfortable and high quality accommodation is easy to find at Munnar.

Tall Trees Resort: This resort is built inside a cardamom plantation near Munnar. The high altitude forest here supports large number of birds. The ambience is excellent and the cottages have been built with utmost care to protect the surrounding flora. 

Tea County: A plantation theme resort run by the state owned-Kerala Tourism Development Corporation.

Olive Brooke: A quiet resort ideal for  birders.

Kumarakom

Kumarakom is a renowned tourist destination and hence accommodation is easy to come by. We recommend the Coconut Lagoon, The Taj  or KTDC Waterscapes. 

Converted rice-barges - or  'kettuvallams' - are a  special attraction of Kumarakom. The interiors are luxurious and it is worthwhile to embark on a cruise through the backwaters. The boats are normally hired for overnight stays and can be excellent vehicle for birding at Kumarakom.

Top Slip

At Top Slip, good accommodation is difficult to come by. Hence we recommend the magnificent Banyan Tree Resort, 12 kms away at Sethumada - itself an excellent birding destination.
