Ramsar Sites:
Three wetlands of our State obtained
the status of "Ramsar Site". The wetlands are:
1. Ashtamudi Lake
2. Sasthamkotta Lake &
3. Vembanad-Kol Wetland (Vembanad & Kole are considered as
a large single complex).
They were declared as Ramsar on 19
August 2002.
The Convention on Wetlands came into force for India on 1 February
1982. There are 11 sites in India, out of which 3 are in Kerala.
